グランドセイコー・セカンドに後期モデル、Ref.5722-9010です。 セカンドモデルが発売されたのはファーストモデルの発売から4年経った1964年。ファーストモデルと比較すると、カレンダー機能（早送り機能付き）を搭載、ケース裏蓋を圧入式のスナップバックからねじ込み式のスクリューバックに変更されています。後期モデルにあたるこちらは、クロノメーター表記がなくなり、GS表記へとなっています。

ケースはスレンレスに260ミクロンの金張りを施したキャップゴールド製。ラグを太く設計することで耐久性も向上が図られており、機能性、素材、デザインから生まれる重厚な印象は、所有欲が満たされます。肉厚なケースにはシルバーのサンレイダイアルが収められています。鏡面仕上げされた多面カットの針とドルフィンハンドとバーインデックスは、ダイアルとのマッチングも素晴らしいです。

ケースは過去に研磨歴の見られない良いものです。角の立ったエッジは見どころです。ケースバックのメダルはダメージが表れているものも多いですが、こちらは大変綺麗な状態を維持しています。ダイアルはミントコンディションです。入水による劣化は見られず、瑞々しい印象です。針やインデックスは美しいままで、上面のメッキは光をキラキラと反射しています。

機械式国産時計のひとつの完成形と言えるモデルで、ムーブメントやケース、文字盤などの造りの良さはピークに達し、スイス製品と比較した際に独自性を見て取れます。

COMMENT

This is the later model of the Grand Seiko Second, Ref. 5722-9010. The release of the Second model came four years after the release of the First model in 1964. Compared to the First model, this one features a calendar function (with quick-set feature) and a change in the case back from a snap back to a screw back. In this later model, the chronometer designation has been replaced with the GS designation.

The case is made of Cap Gold with a thickness of 260 microns applied to a stainless steel base. By designing the lugs thicker, durability has been improved, and the substantial impression born from functionality, material, and design satisfies the desire for ownership. The thick case houses a silver sunray dial. The mirror-finished multi-faceted cut hands and dauphine hands and bar indexes match the dial splendidly.

The case is in excellent condition with no visible polishing history. The sharp edges are a highlight. While many case back medallions show signs of damage, this one maintains a very clean condition. The dial is in mint condition, showing no signs of deterioration from moisture and giving a fresh impression. The hands and indexes remain beautiful, with the plating on the surface reflecting light brilliantly.

This model represents the pinnacle of mechanical domestic watches, with excellence in craftsmanship evident in the movement, case, and dial, showcasing its uniqueness compared to Swiss products.
