COMMENT

ブライトリングのクロノグラフと言えば、＜ナビタイマー＞を思い浮かべる事もあるが、2カウンターの＜クロノマット＞はそれよりも歴史が古い。世界初の”回転計算尺”を搭載した航空時計です。そのなかでも最初期の製品がこのRef.769、ダイアルに記されたパテントナンバー、角形のプッシャーが最初期の特徴です。ダイアルはとても手が込んだ意匠です。中央は縦ヘアライン。テレメーターが位置するインナーベゼルはマットで、境目にある通称ハチマキは下地出しで囲んでいます。レターの印字は主にブラックで、アラビアのギルトインデックスにブラックプリントの縁取りを施しています。赤いチャプターリングが中央に小さく位置し、それに合わせたセンターセコンドとミニッツカウンターハンド、秀逸なデザインです。ケース素材は18金無垢で、ラグジュアリーなツールウォッチです。

コンディションに秀でた個体です。ケースは研磨歴が見られず、ケースとラグのシームレスなラインが美しいです。サイドにある女性の横顔のホールマークが擦れなく残っています。クロノマットは航空時計のため防水性は考慮されておらず、それ故に文字盤へのダメージは仕方がありません。こちらはそれが最低限であり、資料価値としても貴重なものです。搭載キャリバービーナス175はメンテナンス済みで、パワーリザーブ47時間を確認しています。

目の付け所が特異でないと金無垢クロノマットには行き着かないかと思いますが、ファーストリリースに存在したこのハイエンドな時計に心奪われる時計ファンもおられるかと思います。航空計算尺のパテントナンバー（217012）がダイアル中央に印字されています。機械のVENUS175はピラーホイールにキャリングアームと古典の基礎となるようなムーブメント。チラネジの付いた大きなテンワに、ブレゲヒゲを採用し高精度にも磨きがかかった名品を搭載しています。

【計算方法について】 掛け算・・・18×25の場合

掛けたい数を外と内のスケールで合わせ答えとして現れるHを読み取ります。
18×25の場合、ベゼルのスケール18と内側のスケール25をベゼルを回して合わせます。12時下の赤字でHと書かれた部分に、計算の答え450が示されます。 割り算はその逆、割りたい元の数をHに合わせ、内側のスケール。 割りたい数を調べると、そこに接している外側のゲージが答えとなります。

航空時計とは言え、軍に官給された事はなく、主にアメリカの民間パイロットが使用していた。当時は庶民には手の届かない高級品であったことでしょう。“クロノグラフのスペシャリスト”として確固たる地位を築いた＜BREITLING＞は、今なお世界中で愛されている名門ブランドとして発展し続けています。

When it comes to Breitling chronographs, one might think of the Navitimer, but the Chronomat with its two counters has a longer history. It's an aviation watch equipped with the world's first "rotating slide rule." Among them, the earliest models like this Ref.769 feature a patent number on the dial and square pushers, distinguishing them as early examples. The dial boasts intricate design details, with vertical line patterns at the center. The inner bezel housing the telemeter is matte, with a chamfered edge, commonly known as the "headband," delineated by an underbase. The lettering is mainly in black, with black-printed borders on gilt Arabic indices. A small red chapter ring sits in the center, complemented by matching central seconds and minute counter hands, showcasing excellent design. The case material is solid 18-carat gold, making it a luxurious tool watch.

This specimen excels in condition. The case shows no signs of polishing, and the seamless lines between the case and lugs are beautiful. The hallmark of a female profile on the side remains unscathed. The Chronomat, being an aviation watch, wasn't designed with waterproofing in mind, so some damage to the dial is inevitable. However, it's minimal here, adding to its value as a collectible. The Venus 175 movement has been serviced, with a power reserve of 47 hours confirmed.

It takes a discerning eye to appreciate a solid gold Chronomat, but there are certainly watch enthusiasts captivated by this high-end timepiece from the first release. The patent number for the aviation slide rule (217012) is printed in the center of the dial. The VENUS175 movement, with its pillar wheel and carrier arm, forms the foundation of classical movements. It's equipped with a large, adjustable screw balance wheel and Breguet hairspring, ensuring high precision.

[About Calculation] Multiplication... For example, 18 × 25:

Align the number you want to multiply with the scales on the outer and inner rings and read off the answer marked "H" at the bottom. For 18 × 25, align the scale of 18 on the bezel with the inner scale of 25. At the part marked "H" below 12 o'clock in red, the answer, 450, is shown. Division is the reverse, aligning the number to be divided by with "H" and checking the outer scale for the answer.

Although it's an aviation watch, it was never issued to the military and was mainly used by civilian pilots in the United States. It must have been a luxury item out of reach for ordinary people back then. Breitling, firmly established as the "chronograph specialist," continues to evolve as a prestigious brand loved by people worldwide.
