1968年から製造され始めた5thモデル、Ref.145.022です。50年間作られたスピードマスターだからこそ、マイナーチェンジを繰り返した経緯があり、細かなディティールの変化を見つける楽しみがあります。こちらはケースバックにメダリオンを有しており、ロゴのrが下がっている通称「下がりr」が特徴です。ムーブメントはCal.861赤金メッキになります。アーカイブが付属します。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、初期の世代は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名なお話。

Presenting the Ref.145.022, the 5th model introduced in 1968, marking the beginning of a 50-year production run for the Speedmaster. The numerous minor changes made over the years offer enthusiasts the joy of discovering subtle details. This model features a medallion on the case back and the characteristic "dropped R," where the 'r' in the logo is lower. The movement is the Cal.861 with red gold plating. An archive is included.

The case, likely polished in the past, retains a good shape with no noticeable damage. The dial is pristine without signs of deterioration. The use of tritium for the luminous material, instead of Luminova, results in a beautiful beige patina, allowing for an exquisite vintage feel. The text and engravings on the case back are also well-preserved. The watch is in operational condition, and a video is provided for your confirmation. It has been disassembled and cleaned at our store, with a power reserve of 48 hours verified. It is ready for use immediately upon purchase.

While the Speedmaster is now immediately associated with space, its early generations were born as a purely motorsport watch with no connection to space. The Speedmaster was the first watch globally to display a tachymeter on the outer bezel instead of the dial, a breakthrough in 1959. In the same year, the Speedmaster underwent a minor change, transitioning the bezel base from black aluminum to an arrow-shaped to alpha-shaped hands, enhancing visibility. NASA, in search of a robust chronograph capable of withstanding the harsh conditions of space, officially adopted the Speedmaster after it surpassed other formidable contenders. The iconic moment came in 1969 during humanity's first moon landing, where the Speedmaster was worn by astronauts, becoming a renowned part of its history.
