OMEGA SPEEDMASTER Ref.105.012 CB case Facet Lines On The Lugs

オメガのレジェンド、スピードマスターRef.105.012です。NASAの正式採用となり、「PROFESSIONAL」の名が文字盤に登場しています。この個体の希少なポイントはセントラル・ボワテ（CB=Centrale Boites）製ケースであること。ツイストラグは後年のものと比べ一筋エッジが多いことです。ステップダイアルやアプライドのΩロゴ等、最もメリハリの効いたスピードマスターと言えるでしょう。

ケースは程よく使用され、貫禄を増しています。この時計の最大のポイントでもある、ラグのCBケース特有のエッジは残っています。磨きが入ってしまうと消えてしまうので大切なポイントです。ベゼルは使用感が見られます。ダイヤルはやれていますが、ルミナスがベージュカラーを保っています。トータルコンディションでこなれた雰囲気で、実用に向いています。弊社にて分解掃除済みで、パワーリザーブ48時間以上を計測しています。

Ref.105.003からのアップグレードは、リュウズガードのためケースが左右非対称に、ラグがツイストしたデザインになりました。Ref.145.022との違いとしては文字盤のΩがアップライトでムーブメントにはcal.321が用いられていることです。Cal.321は後のCal.861のカム式と違い、ピラーホイール式のため、コスト高で、チラネジテンプに巻き上げヒゲと高級仕様です。これこそがスピードマスターです。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、当時は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名な話。

This is the Omega legend, the Speedmaster Ref.105.012. It's officially adopted by NASA, bearing the name "PROFESSIONAL" on its dial. A rare feature of this particular model is its case made by Centrale Boites (CB). The twisted lugs have more pronounced edges compared to later models. With its step dial and applied Ω logo, this Speedmaster can be considered the most striking.

The case shows moderate signs of use, adding to its character. The distinctive edges of the CB case lugs, a key feature of this watch, are still present. The bezel shows signs of use, but the dial has some aging, with the luminous retaining a beige hue. Overall, it exudes a seasoned charm and is practical. It has been fully serviced by our workshop, boasting a power reserve of over 48 hours.

The upgrade from Ref.105.003 introduced crown guards, resulting in a case with asymmetrical lugs. Unlike later models, the Ω on the dial is upright, and it houses the cal.321 movement. Cal.321, with its column wheel design, is more expensive and sophisticated compared to the later cam-operated Cal.861. This is what defines the Speedmaster.

BRAND

While today "Speedmaster equals space" is an immediate association, initially, it had nothing to do with space but was a pure motorsports watch. The Speedmaster was the world's first watch to feature a tachymeter on the external bezel rather than the dial. In 1959, the Speedmaster underwent a minor change, featuring a black aluminum base for the bezel and changing the hands from arrow to alpha shape, improving visibility. NASA sought a robust chronograph capable of withstanding the harsh conditions of space, and the Speedmaster emerged victorious, becoming the official watch. The rest is history, with the Speedmaster famously worn during the first moon landing in 1969.
