COMMENT

すりばち状のインナーリングに5分刻みのインデックスを配置したポールルーター。文字盤中心はブラックギルトで奥行きが感じられます。主張の少ないドット状のミニッツと、クロスラインはシンメトリーで引き込まれそうな、秀逸なトータルデザインです。盤面を駆けるドルフィンハンドの針は、クラシカルで視認性が良いです。ケースは真円で、ねじれたラグです。ケースサイドはラグまで流れるようなシームレスな造りで、ジェラルド・ジェンタがまだ無名の時にデザインしたという背景も相まって、人気の理由が頷けます。今となっては需要と希少価値の高い、JB Champion製のUSAブレスを装備しています。

搭載ムーブメントである、自社Cal.218-2は「MICROTOR」と呼ばれる、特殊な自動巻機構を備えています。自動巻の錘（ローター）を機械の上に配置するのでは無く、小さいローターをベースムーブメントの中に埋め込む事で、薄くエレガントなデザインに、スクリューバックの堅実なケースを実現しました。

ケースは半世紀以上経ったとは思えないほどの、良好なコンディションです。小傷のみで大きな損傷はなく、3面のねじれたラグはエッジが立っています。インナーリングは一切の劣化も見られません。ブラックギルトのダイヤルは、艶が見事に残っています。ブランドロゴのレターが綺麗です。針は均一なエイジングを受けていますが、程度のよいもので雰囲気を良くしています。ルミナスは素晴らしい色味の経年変化がみられます。ブログにて、分解掃除の様子を掲載しています。

ポールルーターの始まりは、SAS（スカンジナビア航空） が耐磁性を備えた堅牢な時計の製作を、ユニバーサル・ジュネーブへ依頼したことからでした。当時SASが計画していた、北極を超える 2600 km の先駆的な飛行を称えるために、その名がつけられました。どこかエレガントでありながら、ツールウォッチのルーツを持っています。

ユニバーサル・ジュネーブの歴史は二人の時計師、エミーユ・デコームとジョルジュ・ペレによって1894年スイスで創業されたところから始まる。高級感溢れるデザインウォッチや複雑時計の製造を得意とし、クロノグラフの名品＜コンパックス＞を開発したことで、その名を時計史に刻んだ名門のブランド。

Polerouter features a honeycomb-shaped inner ring with five-minute markers. The dial center is adorned with black guilt, exuding depth. The understated dot-shaped minute markers and cross lines create a symmetrical and captivating overall design. The dauphine hands gracefully traverse the dial, offering classical aesthetics and excellent readability. The case boasts a circular shape with twisted lugs. The seamless design of the case side, flowing into the lugs, coupled with the fact that it was designed by Gerald Genta when he was still relatively unknown, adds to its popularity. Additionally, this timepiece comes equipped with a JB Champion-made USA bracelet, which has over 50 years of history.

Powered by the in-house Cal.218-2 movement, it features a unique automatic winding mechanism known as the "MICROTOR." Rather than placing the automatic winding rotor on top of the movement, a small rotor is embedded within the base movement, allowing for a slim and elegant design with a solid screw-down case back.

The case of this watch is in excellent condition, showing no signs of aging despite being over half a century old. While there are minor scratches, there are no significant damages, and the twisted lugs retain their sharp edges. There are no signs of deterioration on the inner ring, and the black guilt dial retains its impressive sheen. The brand logo lettering is crisp, and while the hands show uniform aging, they enhance the overall appeal. The luminescent material displays a fantastic range of colours due to aging. The process of disassembly and cleaning has been documented on a blog.

The history of Polerouter traces back to a request from Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) for the production of a sturdy, anti-magnetic watch, commemorating their groundbreaking 2600 km flight beyond the Arctic Circle. This led to the inception of the model name. Despite its elegance, it retains the roots of a tool watch.

The brand's history dates back to its founding by Emile Decomb and Georges Perret in Switzerland. Specializing in the production of luxurious design watches and complicated timepieces, the brand established itself as a prestigious name in horology by developing the iconic chronograph "Compax."
